New county building

The county’s budget is relatively fixed with financial obligations. By committing an additional $395,175 (according to the 2020 adopted budget) annually to the fixed obligations until 2036, there are less funds available to meet unexpected needs and ongoing needs of the county and the citizens.

If I were commissioner at that time, I would have opposed the projected $8.1 million 20-year financial commitment. Additionally, I would have opposed the Certificate of Participation (COP) lease structure, it is a work-around of TABOR. I would have demanded the financial obligation be decided by the voters. However, as commissioner, I will not look back and condemn or applaud the decisions made. I will look forward to frugally manage the budget, find savings in the budget to focus on public safety and infrastructure, and always remember it is the citizens’ money.
